Gracewood Farm & Retreat, LLC's mission is to share with guests a "Bed and Board" (B&B) opportunity to appreciate relaxing country living on an active horse farm, and experience what it has to offer. You'll be surrounded by nature's beauty, native wildlife, and friendly Paso Fino horses, while staying in the beautiful and lovingly restored 1898 farm house or the adjoining carriage house suite.
On the scenic farm retreat, guests may take a stroll around the flower gardens, or hike down the hill through the mature woodlands. Discover the bubbly running creek in the wet season with small waterfalls over the rocks in the along the varied terrain on the land. Note that it can be an invigorating hike back up the hill if you go all the way down. Take your time to enjoy nature! One of the favorite views of guests is from the large gazebo of the back pastures, distant horizon tree line, and the nearby pond with a water spray under the shade of the tall trees. There are equestrian and walking trails on the farm's woodlands. There are three "Bed & Board" (B&B) guest bedrooms in the main house and the two bed room suite (with sitting area, kitchenette and deck) in the upper level of the carriage house. The "board" part of the B&B is for guests who may desire to bring their horse with them to lease a stall in the horse barn. There are well established regional equestrian trails, such as the Moss Foundation in Southern Pines or at Hoffman Forest. You may wish to take private lessons with the farm's riding instructor Lynn Gallup. |
About The Farm |
Gracewood Farm & Rereat, LLC is an equestrian farmstead that has been restored to modern day's comforts to create a relaxing and memorable experience for our bed and board guests. Gracewood Farm & Retreat, LLC is situated on 28 acres, part of a the original 109 acre Benjamin P. Fry farm. The Victorian style farm house dates back to 1898. Several original outbuildings still remain on the site. The farm's terrain is rolling hills and situated on the southern edge of North Carolina's Piedmont region and close by to the south is North Carolina's sand hills region.
The farm features an equestrian operation with training and sales of registered Paso Fino horses, and the "SmoothRide4u" horsemanship lesson program. Gracewood Farm is home as a sanctuary for a number of select senior Paso Fino horses, as their greener pastures retirement home. The farm's owner and manager is Lynn Gallup, a native of North Carolina, whose career paths have been as a high school teacher, community college instructor, and graphic/web designer, As a lifetime equestrian, Lynn has been a senior certified Horse Show (breed) Judge, USEF Show Steward, and gaited horsemanship instructor and clinician. She has an interest in historical preservation. Her former pre-Civil War home in Wake County, N.C. was built circa 1810 and was a long term restoration project. |

There are multiple antique shops and interesting shopping attractions in the Carthage and surrounding town areas. The nearby town of Cameron is also well known for antique shops. Carthage was home to a bustling horse drawn cart and buggy factory in the mid-1800's to early 1900's. The famous pottery region of Seagrove is about 25 minutes north of Carthage, There are many antique shops as well.
Pinehurst, 20 minutes to the south, is famous for its world class golf courses. The equestrian trails network at the 4000 acre Moss Foundation in Southern Pines is approximately 25 minutes away by truck and trailer. Historical Pisgah Covered Bridge and the N.C. Zoo are about 45 minutes away heading north towards Asheboro. |
